About Me
Since the earliest I can remember, games have been an important part of my life. Particularly video games and tabletop RPGs, I spent many long hours playing / studying for my future career, despite my parents' suggestions to go outside more often. My first forays into the world of game design began at an early age, inventing alternative versions of school yard games like Tag. I've also delved into content design and modding tools for video games such as Duke Nukem 3D and Shadow Warrior (which a 10 year old really should not have been playing!), Worms Armageddon, and Jazz Jackrabbit 2.
My realization that my passion for creating fun experiences for others to enjoy came from over a decade of designing and running tabletop RPG content and learning how much I loved bringing joy to others through gaming experiences, serving as my drive to pursue a career in doing exactly that.
In 2017, I began my journey of learning how to apply all that I've learned from my lifelong hobby into practical skills. In my spare time I had learned how to use the Unity and Unreal Engine, code in both C# and Unreal's Blueprint, leveraged my previous Certificate of Art Fundamentals from Sheridan College and skills in Adobe Photoshop to put together my very first video game over the course of a year, creatively named Space Blaster.
With my first project in tow, I managed to industry shift away from my previous position of six years in server colocation services as a Data Centre Technician, and into the world of game development as a Junior Game Designer at Hothead Games, advancing to an Intermediate Designer after a year of experience there. In 2024 I gained a position at Ubisoft Halifax, where I had the opportunity to work with a cutting edge team to design for a world renowned intellectual property.
I have learned a great many things while working professionally in the game industry, from new engines and tools, standards and best practices, new scripting languages, as well as developed a deeper and more nuanced understanding of game design. I have also met many great people along with way with a diverse array of skills and backgrounds, and really coming to appreciate the power of many passionate, creative minds working together.
